Epiphone Les Paul Special II Electric Guitar, White

Product Description

Our number one selling model is more than just about the price. The Epiphone Special II is a great way for beginners to get started on guitar with real, Les Paul tone, but seasoned pros love the Special II because it's a great-sounding, workhorse guitar that lets them leave their more expensive axes at home. The authentic LP power starts with all-Mahogany construction with a Rosewood fingerboard and is voiced by a pair of hot open-coil 700T and 650R Humbucker pickups. Like all of our electric guitars, it comes standard-equipped with 500K Ohms potentiometers, our own heavy-duty 3-way pickup selector toggle switch and non-rotating heavy duty output jack. This value-champ also features Chrome hardware including the Epiphone LockTone™ locking Tune-o-matic bridge and Stop-bar tailpiece for amazing sustain and even more mind-blowing value.

Amazon.com Product Description

That trademark Les Paul shape in an economical package, including to open-coil Alnico V Humbucker pickups for great classic sound and the Tune-o-matic bridge/Stopbar tailpiece combo for sustain and that Les Paul signature tone.

Les Paul Features in an Economical Package.

Angled Headstock
Unlike cheaper designs, all Epiphones feature a 14-degree headstock that gives you more pressure at the nut and so you get more sustain with less tuning hang-ups caused by "string-tree" gadgets.

Alnico V Humbucker pickups and the industry-standard Tune-O-Matic bridge.

Rosewood fretboard with dot inlays.

Double-Waxed Pickups
Epiphone utilizes a double vacuum waxing process that ensures optimum performance. The pickup is first placed in the specialized wax vacuuming system before the cover is put in place to ensure that the wax fully penetrates to the very center of the pickup and solidifies all parts. After the cover is placed on, it is again given a second vacuum wax bath until the unit is completely saturated with wax.

Output Jack
To increase reliability and ensure consistent performance, Epiphone's proprietary output jacks feature an improved contact shape and heavy-duty spring steel.

Toggle Switches
All Epiphones feature our all-metal, USA designed switches for reliable contact and longer life.

Tunomatic Bridge
Fully adjustable, the tunomatic remains a classic after over 50 years. Unlike guitars fitted with tremolos, there are no tuning or re-stringing difficulties. Plus, tone and sustain are improved because all string vibrations are transferred directly to the guitar.

Potentiometers
Epiphone is passionate about performance. That's why their instruments use one-inch diameter potentiometers for better "throw," longer life and reliable service.

Quick-Connectors
For unequalled reliability as well as ease of service, Epiphone wiring harnesses feature quick-connectors.

Purchased this beauty along with Vox Valvetronix VT15 Guitar Combo Amplifier - 1x8 inch, 15 watts and oh does it sound nice. I changed the chords as soon as i got it to some super slinky string set for that extra bendy deliciousness. All of the hardware is solid and easily serviceable. The action was low, just about perfect. The neck is straight and without defect.
This is an overall great guitar to start with, but keep in mind that this is an Epiphone, not a Gibson with a label that says Epiphone so it isn't made with parts of the highest quality, so it isn't fair to compare it with something it will never be.

Great guitar for the money! This starter guitar will last and has a great sound. Bridge is a little finicky and you have to get it just right to eliminate buzzy strings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Construction, Decent Sound, November 10, 2011

I am no musician but I just wanted an entry level guitar. This one seems like a good quality starter guitar. On receiving it I was happy to see it was double boxed and had foam and cardboard inserts to keep it from getting banged up. I can say that the construction seems very solid. Neck is rock-solid and pegs for the strap were also solid.

As far as the pickups, tone, and setup of the guitar... Well since I am a beginner I can't tell you how well the harmonics on the 12th fret are :) But it sounds just fine to me. Since its a step up from the "LP Junior" I suspected it may be just a bit more "guitar".

The neck looks to be very straight with the right action on all the strings. No fret buzz on any string other than the low E string when plucked too hard and left ringing. At some point, I may take it into a shop to make sure the setup is decent but only if I actually learn enough where it makes a difference.

It tuned up quickly and seems to stay in... Read more
