When questioned about how to become a great bassist he said there were just three things. I'm paraphrasing here, because I did not write anything down. 1. Know your instrument very well - where things are 2. Know your chord changes - basic theory or basic feel. 3. Know how to get from one key to another in the time available. - timing. I bought the author's version of this book for ukes (primarily because of the co-author) and found it useful, so I thought that maybe the book for bass playing had the same unique perspective on patterning--or at the very least some useful information. I've been playing bass for a long time, and, generally, I find that I can enjoy all levels of bass exercise and musical style books--particularly if the author takes a different approach to teaching the reader. I always seem to learn something new or interesting from these books, and in the process, I inevitably pick up a tip or two and strengthen my chops. And that's really all it takes for me to find value in these books. Sadly, I found nothing new or useful in this book. It has very little theory or opinion. Instead, there's a lot of white space and large print, and there's lot of repetition that seems to just add to the page count. There are other more thorough...
